Mach 1 emerged onto the healthy local music scene with there version of "Sterling Power Pop" just over eighteen months ago and have steadily built a following of co-horts reminiscent of a bunch of pre-schoolers at a family fast food eat-out joint.

The December '97 their debut EP "The Sound of Speed" at Caringbah Bizzo's, brought with it a phase which can only be described as frantic. Mach 1 built up an appreciative following for there brand of "Sterling Power Pop" playing as often as they could, where ever and when ever they could. John Tingwell reported in his story on Mach 1 for  The Drum Media 2nd December 1997 "The cocktail aspect of it (the music), tends to throw a spanner in the works of the most prudent pigeon hole keeper". To that we say... "Picture this; you take all of your fave CDs, throw them in your Mum's blender, pour, scull, wipe the milk mo from the smile on your dial and ask the question.."What flavour is this?"

This is Mach 1, a speedway of sights and sounds that will take you through the hairpin bends of melody - fire you through the straight of sarcasm then the chicanes of pop, ska, punk and industo-elemental rock.

Early gigs such as the '98 Australia Day Battle of the Bands sponsored by Rotary at Kareela Oval, Sydney, Australia, in which they drew for first place, together with Kogarah Council's Youth Week under 18's "Pit" and a city launch of the EP at the Annandale Hotel drew quite a deal of interest from within and out the music industry. The band recorded a single entitled "Supercharge" spurred on by Rocket Industries' top-fueller driver whose car is featured on the cover of the EP. Dragster enthusiasts and wake-boarders have given Mach 1 the thumbs up for their adrenalin charged performances.

Airplay, that elusive component, was finally achieved when Triple M 104.9FM played "Scrambled" on Sunday 15th March '98. We had all taken bets on which track they'd pick but the kitty remains. We were all wrong! 2SER-FM gave the band some air time on Wednesday 29th July 1998 and local community radio 2SSR-FM-The Sound of   the Shire (announcer Matt Sutton) certainly was instrumental in getting the Mach 1 sound "out there", on serveral occaisions hosting on-air interviews and live-to-air unplugged renditions from the band.

Paying there dues (and then some) Mach 1 continues to do the rounds of the inner City gigs but is now looking forward to a change of atmosphere. Having already stunned their loyal followers by playing seated and semi-unplugged in-store at Grace Bros. Miranda Westfield's record and youth department opening on 6th June 1998 and also Chatswood Grace Bros, Mach 1 are willing to take on anything including the very hyped Goodbar in Oxford St, Paddington, in August '98. Headlining shows at their home town venue Caringbah Bizzo's and gigs in Wollongong, Parramatta and the Blaxland tavern in the Blue Mountains, Mach 1 has continued to grow in terms of audience appeal and musically, relishing the opportunity to get out there to places they haven't been and meeting up with other bands and audiences who have the same determination and drive to keep original bands and venues alive with sounds they want to hear is what keeps Mach 1 going.

The Mach 1 machine had the perfect opportunity to show what they're made of at Kareela's Vans Warped Tour of 8th January 1999. This spot was offered to them as they left the stage after opening the show for The Living End and Area 7 at the Metro, Sydney, in October 1998. Add to those, the great opening spots with Jebidiah and Body Jar in September '98 and Sutherland Entertainment Centre's all ages event and a spot on The Essential Stage at Sydney's Big Day Out '99 and Mach 1 is well and truly a band to keep an eye on.

Since The Big Day Out Mach 1 has continued to play the usual Sydney venues and towards the end of March headed to Newcastle to open for The Porkers at the Cambridge Hotel. The following day  saw them further north to Forster for and all ages event  at Tiona Park for the Forster's Home Base  Youth Service's fund raiser "B4-2000". The lads once again opening for The Porkers and have subsequently been invited back to the opening of the Skate Park and Mobile fast-food van which funds were being raised .

MAX-FM Taree gave Mach 1 considerable  air-time for their singles "G I Miss U" and "Bleed".

Receiving good airplay regionally, MAX-FM Taree, SNOW-FM, EAGLE-FM, and the occasional Triple J offering, Mach 1 is getting the attention they deserve! The video  clip to "G I Miss U" has been  shown on RAGE with Triple J simulcast and has been catalogued for play with [V] and MTV.

As Max says in "Girl" (track 4 The Sound of Speed)... "Were movin' now!"...
